Occupational Therapy


Arukah Rehab Corporation offers Occupational Therapy consulting services to assess and treat a wide range of conditions from physical and brain injuries, neurological, musculoskeletal, mental illness, developmental delays and other dysfunctions.  Our clients range from young children with developmental delays to elderly with illness or dysfunction to MVA ( motor vehicle accident ) or other injury related cases.  We incorporate a multidisciplinary approach and offer Occupational Therapy, Kinesiology, and Physiotherapy through our service partners.

Occupational Therapists (OTs) are the only health professionals that take into account the relationship between a client, the environment, activities/roles perspective while assessing and recommending adaptive equipment or environment modifications.

Our Occupational Therapists also provide services such as assessments/consultations and recommendations for seating and wheelchair mobility systems.  This includes individually configured manual wheelchair systems, power wheelchair systems, adaptive seating systems, alternative positioning systems, and other mobility devices

Our Occupational Therapists will ensure the specific equipment is designed to meet each client’s needs for supporting posture and alignment, function and safety, and work with a client’s habits, lifestyle, occupations/activities and their environment.  When assessing and recommending complex equipment, our Occupational Therapists will take into account a client’s particular situation/condition, their occupations/activities, functional goals, needs and the environment.

  • Training clients, caregivers, and family members on safety and smooth operation of equipment and technology use.
  • Active rehabilitation with our kinesiologist in a gym or home to reach functional goals. Safe movements are taught to adapt to injuries or dysfunction.
  • Hospital discharge coordination.
  • Advocating for funding approval from insurance where applicable and obtaining the necessary equipment to assist or to adapt, modify an environment to improve engagement in activities that have meaning to our individual clients

  • Companionship and mental support
    This is a basic need and essential to keep an individual in a positive state of mind.
  • Transportation and shopping
    An individual’s ability to can go out and get groceries and medications without assistance.
  • Communicating with people
    Social interactions and managing the household’s phones, mail and housekeeping for guest.
  • Household management
    Cleaning, tidying, removing garbage and clutter, doing laundry and folding clothes
  • Preparing meals
    Meal preparation and planning, including shopping and storing groceries
  • Managing medications
    The amount of assistance required to get prescriptions filled, keeping medications up to date and taking medications on time and in the right dosages
  • Managing finances
    How much assistance an individual may need in managing bank accounts and paying bills on a timely basis.

HOSPITAL DISCHARGE, HOME SAFETY ASSESSMENTS, SUPPORTS

Arukah Rehab Occupational Therapists are highly experienced in managing hospital discharge cases.  Our OTs do home safety assessments, set up home care supports and assist with applications or advocating for insurance funding.  We will ensure a smooth and safe transition to your home after an accident or illness.  Our OTs will work with the client at home to assess their functional mobility and more to recommend the correct adaptive equipment to do a task safely such as bathing, toileting and much more.  Our OTs will assess the home and recommend the necessary solutions for accessibility and function.

WALKERS, WHEELCHAIRS & OTHER ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT

Occupational Therapists (OTs) are the only health professionals that take into account not only restoring the physical body, but at the same time addressing mental, psychosocial, emotional, and environmental factors with the specific activity goal of the client for the entire life span, when intervening therapy or recommending adaptive equipment or environmental modifications.

WORKPLACE ASSESSMENTS-ERGONOMICS, MODIFICATIONS, & RETURN TO WORK PROGRAM

Arukah Rehab Occupational Therapists cover a full range of services to help clients with physical, cognitive, psychological and mental challenges. We provide services for workplace assessments, ergonomic assessments, and a gradual return to work program.

Our OTs will also manage your case by working with your doctor and a multidisciplinary team of health professionals, including communication with your lawyer, ICBC or WCB, to maximize your results and meet your goals.

We will assess your functional mobility and set up a return to work and rehabilitation plan.  Based on OT assessments, we will advocate for your funding where applicable from insurance.  Our OTs will help you manage pain, modify your work environment where possible, help you return to work and reach your functional goals.
